Christopher laughed as they had made to the lagoon where the tryouts were going to be. Once having stood there for a moment and caught his breath he smiled towards Kit. He knew he could have most likely beaten her once they were close. He was not going to take the chance of getting her made at him because he happened to beat her. "Thanks you were really fast also. I mean we did tie afterall."
He started to walk towards the arena so that he could see if the coach was there a practice quod they could use. Christopher knew that they would not worry about the brooms right now since it was really simpler to throw a ball till used to it on ground.
Katrien nodded, a little out of breath but grinning widely. She walked with Christopher into the stadium and saw that there were a few other people practicing, too. The coach wasn't anywhere to be seen. Maybe she was getting ready for tryouts. Looking to her cohort, she shrugged.
"I guess we can just use what we want," Kit motioned to a couple of other students doing drills and a few doing laps around the track on brooms.
Christopher looked towards the students that Kit pointed out. The kids all look like they had been doing this before. "Well then let's find one of the practice quods. The brooms can be something to work on later."
He start to move over toward where he saw all of the equipment. Christopher knew that he was no where as good as the others practicing. "So how far apart should we start?" He was not sure how far the girl could throw.
"I don't know," Kit picked up a defused quod to check the weight. "Let's do like an egg toss - you know what that is? Start kinda close and take a step back every time you catch it. Let's start about this far apart."
She indicated the distance between them right then - a yard or so - and moved out onto the field. Once he was ready, Kit tossed the ball underhand to Christopher.
Christopher looked towards Kit as she was explaining on how they would work on their tossing. He really did not feel as if he belonged here at the school. The people were either believing that he did not know muggle things. He grew up as one and knew it all. “Okay we can do it like and egg toss. When we get to where we are missing them we can move forwards a step and practice there.”
Christopher smiled catching the ball before looking at it for moment. He not really seen it before but knew it was interesting. He then nods to her before underhand tossing it back.
"Yep," Kit caught it easily and took a step back. It weighed about as much as a football and seemed to fall rather slowly when thrown, making it very easy to catch. She also noted it felt almost magnetized to her hands, which made it possible to hold easily in just one hand despite its size. It was bigger than a men's regulation basketball and she was holding it in just one of her tiny hands!
Now just a little more familiar with the ball, she threw it back to Christopher.
Christopher smiled as she tossed it back to him. He for once since his sister’s death was having fun and not getting into trouble. Maybe this had been the plan of his parents the whole time since they were paying for it Chris did not want to get kicked out losing all of it. “Well the quod seems to be one of the easiest balls to handle out of any sport tired out for. There might actually be a chance to actually make it on the team hopefully.”
He moved to throw the ball back at Kit. Christopher knew that some point he was going to have to try and at least talk to something about what happen. He started to think about everything and realized that he hated all sports but this was one he was actually decent at because he wore clothes that fit. “You know your good at this you should really think about trying out because you would be better than me. Most times I stink at any sports because always falling down.”
"You really think so?" Kit had to talk a bit louder now that there was a fair distance between them. "This is good here, I think."
Katrien stopped stepping back and just tossed the ball back and forth with Christopher. "You aren't falling down now. I don't think I've seen you fall down, ever," she said, then quickly amended her observation. "Not that I watch you all the time or anything. That would be creepy. Just saying, if you fall a lot, I've never noticed. What, you got inner ear problems or something?"
Christopher was glad when she had decided that this was going to be a great distance for them both. They would still be close enough that did not have to work really hard to toss it to each other. “I agree with you that this is a great length. If we do this well enough we can back up later.”
He caught the ball that was tossed at him. “The truth really is I think that I not falling because of the fact that in my own uniform and shoes that actually fit. I will admit that I have fallen a few times but also not really did anything that would cause it to happen.” He really did not know if he could trust her to keep quiet on money issues. “I believed that it more of the or something.”
"Oh, well it makes sense to trip a lot with shoes that don't fit," Kit nodded, continuing the passes. "I'm glad you've got clothes that fit."
Before she could say much else, a whistle sounded over the hum of chattering students. The PE teacher called for the start of tryouts once the crowd was silent. So much for practicing on the brooms first. Then all of the people not trying out were ordered to leave.
"Sorry, guess I gotta make like a banana," Kit sighed as she walked toward Christopher, then clapped him on the shoulder. "Good luck, man."
