With Pledge week coming up, Elizabeta wanted to find good candidates to try out for Novus Ordo Secolorum. She had a few people in mind who had the potential to become power brokers and movers and shakers in the world to come. She also knew these same potential Legacy brothers and sisters could become of personal use to her, whether they make the cut or not.
As one of the well placed members of the Legacy this year, Elizabeta knew she will need to bring in at least one potential to face the trials. The more candidates the better chance the few who pass all the trials and are inducted into the Legacy, will be all the more worthy of it.
With dinner time being here, Elizabeta headed to the cafe to get something to eat. By the time she ordered what she wanted, and looked over at the slowly filling tables she spotted one of her likely candidates. Patrick Pratt. By all accounts he was taking over the family business instead of his older brother. Though rather young Patrick was tall for his age and filled with potential. She moved away from the counter and headed for his table. He was currently alone but that may not last long, so she didn't want to waste this opportunity to have a chat.
"Mind if I join you?" She asked politely. "I have been hoping for an opportunity to talk with you, Patrick."
Patrick was a little surprised, but he didn't show it. Romani came from a powerful family, but she was still his senior. Not that it would matter in five years or so. She was in the same class as Esther, and it had not seemed odd sitting with her, yet Romani just seemed older. "Of course, Elizabeta, please, have a seat. I could use someone beautiful to have an intelligent conversation with while I eat my dinner. It makes dinner taste better too, don't you think?" he asked, remembering all the tricks his mother had taught him about social skills in company.
"Thank you." Elizabeta replied, setting her tray down before taking a seat. His attempt at flattery was polite and a little over the top but it was rather cute. "I will have to agree dinner does taste better with good conversation and attractive company."
"I expect you are wondering why I would choose to sit with you who are several years my junior and at this point never had much interaction. Rest assured the reason behind my wish to talk with you and eat dinner with are not malicious in any way." She wondered if she confused him yet or if he was following along without effort. "The truth of the matter is I have been watching you for awhile now. I feel you would make a good addition to the membership of the most influential Legacy this school has to offer, Novus Ordo Secolorum."
Patrick was a little surprised, but he kept his face pleasantly indifferent. He had been considering them, but also the Alger Society or even the Brains or Hope and Glory. He wanted to see who made him the best connections and what his parents said he should consider. "i thank you for considering me, Elizabeta. It's an honor. Tell me about what you have to offer that the other Legacies don't. What advantages would it have for me here, but more importantly, in business, later."
"Novus Ordo Secolorum is a close knit group and as I am sure you know by now, highly secretive of what we do within our Legacy House. But we do far more than what is even guessed at here at school. Some may say we are up to no good yet alumni members of the legacy were paramount in ensuring House Elves gained their freedom." Elizabeta kept her voice low, so people couldn't overhear the conversation she was having with Patrick. "Many of the greatest witches and wizards have been in Novus Ordo Secolorum, we are a force for the new era and there are always great benefits being a member. Once a member of the Skulls, always a member and we support each other like family. Better than family."
"We don't talk about what we do behind closed doors, nor reveal what is within our Legacy House. What we do talk about is, even though we are steeped in mystery, secrets and enigma, it doesn't mean we are full of ill intent. What we look for in new recruits are people such as yourself who are intelligent, wise, determined and have great potential. I see great potential in you Patrick Pratt..and not just because of your family ties and the greater likelihood it will be upon your shoulders the family business will be lain when the time comes..but because you have drive and a thirst to be all you can be."
Elizabeta wasn't usually one to speak at such lengths but when there was something important to say, she will talk as much as needed to get the point across. She sipped some of her drink and took a bite of her food while she waited for Patrick's response.
Patrick looked at the girl thoughtfully as he swallowed his dinner. "I'll consider it. I will admit I am flattered and intrigued." He wished he could talk to Phrixos about it. "I would like to know more about what I sign up for. The secrecy has me a little hesitant. But I'll speak to my parents and let them know about the legacy's interest in me and see what they think I should do."
"Perfectly understandable." Elizabeta commented. She didn't expect a guy like Patrick Pratt to jump up and sign on without hesitation. No, he was the sort to look into things. "Pledge week is still about a week away, so plenty of time for you to think it over and do your own investigation into the Legacy. Just a final point, we may keep secrets but in truth, so do all the other Legacies. We just have a reputation for it." She wasn't 100% positive all other Legacies had their own secrets but she knew a few definitely did.
"Any further questions about the legacy?" Elizabeta asked, deciding she may as well chat till she finished eating.
